This playful trompe l'oeil is a facsimile of my sketchbook from the MaréMotrice artist residency in Greenland, summer 2023. It depicts how we scrambled from the boat to the dock. We arrived at Tasiilaq at low tide and tied up to the dock, where a ladder lead up to a sort of pillar that you stand up on and then lean forward/full body launch to another pillar and then step up onto the dock. At low tide, it’s about 15 rungs. At high tide, there are 3-5 rungs to climb; we woke up in the morning at high tide. I wrote in my journal, “I love that the tide lifted us up and down while we were sleeping. A gentle movement, and sweet, even if powerful.”
